The Jacksonville University Sporting Clays, Skeet and Trap Team was founded originally as a club sport at JU by Executive Director and Head Coach David T. Dobson (DavidDobson.com), with assistance from Dr. Priscilla Berry and inaugural Club President Justin Felker, in the Fall of 2009. In December 2011, after winning their division at the ACUI National Championships in April 2011, the JUSST officially became a varsity team sport at JU.

The JUSSTC has the proud distinction of being a 35-time (Divisional/Event) ACUI and SCTP Collegiate HOA National Champion. In addition, former captain and JUSSTC Assistant Coach, Scott Hensley, became the March 2015 ACUI National Collegiate (HOA) Champion in International Skeet and garnered All American status. His younger brother, former JUSSTC team captain and Assistant Coach, Sean, was an RU National Champion in multiple events and was also an All-American. Mike Esposito, former JUSSTC team captain and Assistant Coach, took HOA in Sporting Clays at the SCTP July 2015 Nationals with a perfect 100 the first day, followed by a 91 on the second day. A substantial host of other JUSSTC members have medaled consistently at both the SCTP and ACUI Nationals since our inception, as well as Regional Championships. In addition, a number of JUSSTC shooters have been honored by being consistently invited to the US Olympic Training Camp every year.

We practice Wednesday and Friday afternoons, as well as Saturdays and Sundays and have flexible practice scheduling to honor JUSSTC team members' academic priorities. The JUSSTC is run by the team members under the guidance of Head Coach David Dobson - mentor program and unique in the country for its make-up. The JUSSTC has its own Executive Committee made up of JUSSTC members who have the responsibility of running the entire program. JUSSTC team captains are selected/voted upon, by the entire team, NOT assigned by the Coaches.

Our home club is the Jacksonville Clay Target Sports, but we also visit Amelia Shotgun Sports. Since guns and ammunition are strictly prohibited on campus due to Federal law, we store our guns and ammo at an offsite location. Team members have access to the gun safes at all times during normal business hours.

In order for our program to continue to operate, there is a minimal dues charge of $695 annually, and we work with all JUSSTC members in making this element practical and affordable. All dues are returned to team members in terms of targets and shells and a whole lot more. Even though we are a varsity program at JU, we welcome anyone with competitive clays experience. We are also proud to have several VETS on the team. Thank you for your service.
